(Monrovia, Liberia- November 3, 2021) The Liberia #Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (LBMEC) says it is disturbed and saddened about circumstances surrounding the death of Rev. Dr. William R. Tolbert, III, at his residence in Monrovia on Sunday night.
The Baptist Convention says photo of the late Dr. Tolbert clearly proved that he was murdered and demands a speedily investigation into circumstances leading to his untimely death.
A release from the Baptist Convention quotes its President, Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, Jr as saying, the alleged murder of Dr. Tolbert undermines the security of the state and continues to instill a sense of apprehension,alarm and fear amongst citizenry.
Dr. Reeves wants the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Justice to further conduct an autopsy on the body of Dr. Tolbert and institute an investigation to bring the perpetrators of the alleged act to justice.
The LBMEC’s President is at the sametime calling on Baptists across the Country to remain calm as the Convention work in close consultation with the family of Dr. Tolbert in pursuit of Justice.
Prior to his death, the late Dr. Tolbert served the Baptist Convention as a Senior Elder and a member of the Convention Reconciliation Commission. He also served as Senior pastor of the Zion Praise Baptist Church.
Dr. William R. Tolbert, III, father, the late President William R. Tolbert, Jr served as former President of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, who was also killed in cold blood on April 12,1980 during the Centennial Anniversary of the Baptist Convention in Liberia.
