The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, has relieved with immediate effect Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism (MICAT), Eugene Fahngon of his post.
Mr. Fahngon removal is as a result of spreading false information regarding the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the country.
An Executive Mansion release says the President has warned that he will not hesitate to take similar action against any other official of government engaged in activities that undermine established government policy.
Fahngon has been running a private podcast in which he makes derogatory and unscientific statements about COVID and other happenings in the country.
Staunch CDCIAN, Acarous Gray told a local radio in Monrovia that the statements of Fahngon were undermining the government’s efforts and he should be dismissed.
The Dist 8 lawmaker said as Minister, Fahngon has got no personal opinion on matters of national concern except the Justice Minister of the country.
The Minister however was suspended before and brought back to the government, so it is just a matter of time as political pundits watch.
