A three man technical team from ECOWAS is in the country to aid the process of cleaning the voter roll which the opposition and several stakeholders consider messy ahead of the crucial senatorial midterm election.
Madam Davidetta Brown-Lassana, NEC Chairperson made the pronouncement Tuesday in Monrovia.
A UNDP, ECOWAS and NEC data team will all collaborate to clean the reportedly messy voter roll for a free, fair and transparent election.
It’s unclear whether the opposition, civil society, media and stakeholders will watch the process though they recently filed a writ of mandamus at the Supreme Court to stall the midterm election’s timetable.
The ECOWAS team is led by election and data expert, Chidi Nwafor who has already announced his team is in high spirit.
Opposition CPP called off a planned protest after NEC and Supreme Court gave glaring signs that the voter roll will be cleaned ahead of the election amidst mixed views.
In 2017, the opposition felt cheated after the government’s refusal to officially clean the voter roll despite winning some Legislative seats amidst the same messy system.
