Eleven Ghanaians arrested for illicit mining in Bong County

The Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy has arrested eleven Ghanaians for illicit mining in Bong County, Central Liberia.

The Ghanaians also fell short of having resident and work permits, the Ministry said Friday.

Lands and Mines Minister, Gesler E. Murray is exerting every effort to cleanse Liberian mining sector of illegal miners.

The Ghanaians are said to be using special dredging equipment related to mining without getting any mining license to operate within the sector.

The Ministry had all eleven illegal miners lined up before its premises in handcuffs on Friday.

They are expected to be turned over the Police and other authorities for prosecution and further actions not ruling out deportation.

Bong, Rivercess, Grand Gedeh and Gbapolu Counties, including other mining terrains have seen huge in flock of foreigners with absolutely no entry information.

The decision of the Mines Ministry is expected to serve as a deterrent for others, the Ministry announced.
