Ex Vice Chair, Liberia’s transitional government loses battle to stroke; family says

The family of the ex Vice Chair of erstwhile Liberia’s National Transitional Government- Council of State is dead.

His Excellency Oscar J. Quiah died on Saturday January 30, 2021 in the City of Paynesville, Oscar Jaryee Quiah, at about 9:46 PM local time at the ELWA hospital according to family.

‘H.E Quiah was taken to the ELWA hospital on Wednesday January 27, where diagnosis indicated he had suffered stroke. It was his third battle with stroke. He laid peacefully in bed in the presence of few of his children as he expired,’ the family said in a statement.

H.E Oscar J. Quiah was a founding member of the Progressive Alliance of Liberia (PAL) and its first Secretary General, as well as first Secretary General of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Secretary General and National Vice Chairman Operation, National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL). He served his country in various capacities including Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Local Government, Minister of Postal Telecom, Managing Director of Liberia Telecommunications Corporation, and Civilian Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Liberian National Transitional Government–Council of State (six men collective Presidency). Board member, The National Port Authority, NASSCORP.

H.E. Oscar Jaryee Quiah is survived by his wife Joanna K. Quiah, several children, grand and great grandchildren, and a sister.
