House Summons Farmington Hotel Over Ellen’s Tax Holiday To Company

The Manager of the Farmington Hotel, Mr. Dominique Viad located in Margibi County has been summoned before the leadership of the House of Representatives to show reason why he shall not be held in contempt for his deliberate refusal to honor an invitation  to him by the House’s leadership. He is also instructed to bring along with him his legal Counsellor.

According to a release from the HOR Press Bureau, The leadership (In Special Session) on November 12, 2021 instructed the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mildred N. Sayon, to invite the Manager of the Farmington Hotel for a meeting on Monday, November 15, 2021 in the first floor Conference Room, House Wing of the main building at the hour of 12:00 noon but unfortunately, the Farmington Hotel Manager refused to appear.

The Press & Public Affairs Bureau release quoting Communication from the leadership stressed that the purpose of the proposed meeting with the

Farmington Management is to discuss issues relative to tax Holidays given it by the government of Liberia and to examine the corporate social responsibilities to the citizens of Margibi County Electoral District # 2, the district which hosts the Hotel.

Farmington Hotel Management through its Legal Counsel, J. Johnny Momo & Associates, has written the House’s leadership on behalf of the Farmington Hotel, advising the Lawmakers that Mr. Dominique Viard who is the current General Manager is not a shareholder or Director of the Farmington Hotel and has no knowledge on the issue the lawmakers intent to raise as he was not a party to such discussion.

Release quoting the Counsellor-At-Law and Managing Counselor of the J. Johnny Momon & Associates legal Chambers stressed that the current Management of the Farmington hotel has no seen the Concession Agreement of Tax Holidays Document; and therefore cannot speak to them.

He in conclusion told the lawmakers that the Management has referred the lawmakers concerns to the shareholders and Directors of Farmington Hotel who he said are currently out of Liberia and are expected back in the period of two weeks.

The lawmakers in response to the Farmington lawyer’s communication have termed it as “Non responsive” and a unanimous vote to invite the Hotel Management under contempt was made.
