The Chairman of the Liberia Lands Authority (LLA), Atty. J. Adams Momobah Sr. has announced that only Liberians with proper National Identification Cards or passports can own land in the country.
He warned those who go to the National Archive to process their land deeds to desist as the LLA is the only agency that is responsible to register every land in Liberia.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Monrovia, Atty. Momobah said since the act of LLA was passed in 2018, the General Services Agency, the National Archive and the rest of the other agencies, which carried out documentation on land activities, have turned the entire responsibility on to the LLA.
He therefore termed the National Archive’s involvement in producing any document related to land matters as “going to the carpenter man for vaccination.”
The LLA Chairman went on to accuse the Judicial Branch in connection with national security apparatus of hampering the smooth flow of its operations.
“The Judicial Branch, which is the court, is in connection with the national security of setting freeing land owners who sell their lands double and triple times,” he said.
He also accused the surveyors of operating against their professional ethical codes as they are in the constant habit of surveying a single portion of land twice to various buyers by single land owner.
Meanwhile, the LLA Chairman said the country is lacking surveyors with digital understanding as the first and last training for surveyors was conducted in 1970.
He added that the LLA is currently conducting training of 20 surveyors in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
“Among the trainees, the agency prioritizes gender sensitivity as we have 13 females among the 20 surveyors,” he added .
Chairman Momobah Sr. proudly stated that with the help of international partners, within few months from now, Liberia will have trained, licensed and certificated surveyors.
