MoE confirms termination of Bridge International Kenyan Country Director’s Contract

Education Minister Prof. D. Ansu Sonii has confirmed the termination of Griffin Asigo, a Kenyan national as Country Director of educational enterprise Bridge International Academies that has been operational in Liberia for at least four years.

Minister Sonii told the nation’s owned, Liberia Broadcasting System that the termination was done on the request of his Ministry following several unresolved issues with the company he was getting.

‘I know there are many complaints against Bridge but the person who created those problems is no longer in this country,’ the Minister said.

The MoE boss at the same time said there were continuous issues with Bridge which almost made him shutdown the program as there are six other providers with limited issues.

‘We need thier service but we can’t allow them to take advantage of the whole system,’ the Minister sounded emphatic.

Professor Sonii said he has also instructed that all providers including Bridge International Academies hire Liberian Country Directors before they are renewed for the next term to operate in the country.

Bridge International has been in the media for several issues including bad labor, alleged sexual exploration for job, email hacking and wrongful dismissals amongst others.

Recently the company redundant seventeen Liberians and immediately advertised their roles on job sites raising alarms of wrongful dismissal and bad labor. The Legislature is expected to investigate the matter.

The Minister however frowned on Griffin Asigo running Bridge International from Kenya, noting if he continues to hear issues about Bridge he will be left without any alternative but to act.
