NEC poll workers protest over salary cut ahead of midterm election

Several polling staff are protesting for what they called huge cuts into their pay ahead of the senatorial midterm election.

Amidst the cuts, the workers are also requesting not to be paid by mobile money as being suggested.

The 2020 midterm election is expected to be held nationwide on Tuesday, 8th December.

The agreed payment scheme was initially 90 US, 75 and 60 for Presiding Officer, VIO and others however it has been cut to 75, 60 and 40 US respectively

The aggrieved workers are threatening to boycott the crucial election if the figures are not augmented to the previous discussion.

There has been no official comment from NEC as this has the propensity to jeopardize the holding of the election slated for Tuesday.

Officer from US$90 to US$75
Voter Identification Officer from US$75 to US$60
All others from US$60 to US$40
