Senate To Hold Confirmation For Public Works Minister Designate Today

The Liberian Senate is expected to hold confirmation hearing for Public Works Minister Designate Ruth Coker Collins today at the Capitol.

Madam Collins was recently nominated  by President George Weah in what many viewed as one of the best nominations ever.

The Minister Designate is a seasoned engineer who has a strong background working with the United Nations and other international bodies.

Prior to her appointment she served as Deputy Minister for Technical Services at the Ministry of Public Works as well as Acting Minister for several months after the passing of Mobutu Nyenpan.

The government’s Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) focuses on more road work, rehabilitation and infrastructural development, a burden Madam Collins is expected to shoulder when confirmed.

Senate Committee headed by Bomi Senator Edwin Snowe will drill the Minister on several issues regarding the sector, especially ongoing projects and current status.

There are reports of several women groups, civil society and Liberians expected to troop on Capitol Hill for this historic confirmation at 3PM Friday.
