Sierra Leone: Travel ban imposed on ex Sierra Leonean President

Atleast 100 top Sierra Leonean personalities will not leave the country, at least not anytime soon until corruption allegations against them are cleared, the Country’s authorities have said.

Prominent amongst those named is former President Ernest Bai Koroma who led the country for little over a decade.

Other officials who served the Koroma’s government were also named.

Also on the list of people of interest are former heads of parastatals, bankers, and businessmen amongst others.

The Country’s Asset Recovery Team has been robust over the years in trying to recover stolen wealth gotten during past regimes.

The hundred people named have been ordered to pay back stolen money, forfeit their houses, or be further investigated with immigration authorities placed on high alert.

The opposition has strongly rejected the claims though the ex President is yet to comment as to whether or not he will subject himself to any probe.

President Maada Bio reportedly said the commission of inquiry is led by foreign judges and their job so far is remarkable.
