Weah congratulates US President-elect Biden and VP Kamala Harris on historic win

President George Weah has taken to Twitter to congratulate US President- elect, Joseph Biden and his VP Kamala Harris.

This follows a projection by several notable world media outlets after Biden clinched at least 284 electoral college votes ahead of President Trump.

President Donald Trump is yet to concede and has filed lawsuits in several states across the US.

On Twitter the Liberian leader said ‘Congratulations to U.S.President-elect Joe Biden on his historic win. He assumes the leadership of the United States at a very challenging time for the country and the world as we all face a global health crisis.’

Weah is amongst several world and African leaders who didn’t have the opportunity to meet with Trump in the Oval Office.

Liberia’s reported snub is noticeable given the relationship between the two nations which Trump didn’t take into account; his foreign policy hardly counted Liberia in though some officials say he supported the West African nation highly.

The Liberian leader was fast to point out the two nation’s relationship ‘As the traditional ally of the United States, Liberia stands ready to further enhance and rekindle our long, historic and unique bilateral relations.’

Weah continued ‘I urge all Americans to forge together in peace and unity.’

Tons of congratulatory messages have been pouring in from world leaders while Trump was reported to have been on a golf court.

Political commentators say concession is a key tool to smooth transition which is unlikely in this case.
