Who Wants To Kill Solicitor-General?

-Ex-Justice Ja’neh, Bishop Brown, Farhat, Gonqoi Accused

Liberia’s Solicitor-General, Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus has officially complained of threats on his life and those of his wife and children by some individuals in the Liberian society.

Officially informing Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean via a communication of September 25, 2021, Cllr. Cephus pointed accusing fingers at the likes of impeached former Associate Justice Kabineh Muhammad Ja’neh, Bishop Kortu Brown of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), former Finance Minister David Farhat, Cllr. T. Dempster Brown of the Independent Commission of Human Rights (INCHR) and Emmanuel Gonquoi of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

“The genesis of this whole crisis began when I refused as a function of my professional responsibility to allow a corporate dispute over a truck between convict Ellen Cockrum and Ofori Diah to become a criminal matter, and thereby make the state to spend unnecessary time, energy and resources thereon, but instead, advised the parties, that they could revert to civil litigation which has begun at the Civil Law Court. Further, the individual roles of each of the strange bedfellows or the conspicuous silence being demonstrated has a purpose, and that is, the disgraced Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh who gate-crashed onto the Liberian political landscape by means of armed struggle, is fighting back because of my role as the Lead Manager in his impeachment trial, and subsequent removal, and as in the case of Bishop Kortu Brown, having personal hatred for this government and using his religious connection to conceal his mendacious posturing, as a faceless politician, is also using the campaign to get even with anyone who has seen through his hypocrisies and viciousness; and for David Farhat, as a failed politician, he is paying back because he was indicted by me in the L$2.6 billion CBL case, and for Cllr. T. Dempster Brown, it is purely for a publicity stunt, irrespective of the fact that the allegations are groundless, and for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), their leadership is awaiting sentencing at the Monrovia City Court following final judgment by His Honor, Magistrate Jomah Jallah having confessed their GUILT after they were arrested by me for attacking the Capitol Building at dawn, beating up the security assigned there and damaging the gate before installing their own locks on grounds that members of the National Legislature are allegedly rampantly corrupt. I took the pain to recite the individual roles of each of the groups and reasons behind their campaign of vilification against me, my person, my darling wife and family to draw your attention to the fact that my life is at risk and therefore to crave your indulgence to address these threats in your capacity as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, and to provide me with additional security personal,” Cllr. Cephus stated in his complaints.

Also, the Solicitor General alleged that there are plans by these same groups to incite some youths and women in the Liberian society to stage public demonstrations and demand his unconditional dismissal or resignation as Solicitor-General on accounts of the alleged deaths and disappearances of individuals throughout the country as “vividly shown in Cllr. Brown’s newspaper article cited inter alia.”

Cllr. Cephus narrated: “Today, my family and I live in fear, and can hardly leave our home because of these negative campaigns. However, and as always, I trust that this communication will claim your urgent attention and the necessary steps will be taken to protect not just my office as the Solicitor General, or me as a person, but also my character and family against any possible violent citizens’ arrest, as I will only rely upon the law that I know so well by practice and procedure to defend my cause, and those of my family, in a court of law, where necessary.”

He pointed out that in the last few days, a failed attempt was hatched by Madam Cockrum, to lure him into public conversation and blackmail by means of a purported secret recording, and to engage him in a nefarious campaign to defame his own character, and those of the head of the Economic Crimes Services Division at the Ministry of Justice, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill and President George Weah.

The Solicitor General also accused Madam Cockrum of publicly alleging that he and the aforementioned individuals are involved in ritualistic killings of virgin girls.

“Convicted Cockrum claimed this wholly despicable and asinine claim was divulged to her by former rebel Commander Ofori Diah, her self-confessed business partner. However, when the plot failed to entrap me in the obvious blackmail scheme of convicted Cockrum due to my vehement public rejection and dismissal of these insane allegations, convict Cockrum resorted to the wild manufacture of slander, by first indicating that she paid a bribe of US$17,386,000 to me to lift a “Ne Exeat Republica”(no evidence) through a third party, although she claimed to be my wife, because according to her, she ‘did not see the need to give me the money herself.’ She extend her criminal claims to include that she and I went to a certain Jujuman called Ciafa Watara or Hadallah, whom, she alleges had made three separate virgin girls sacrifices for me, when according to her, I was an Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture. According to her depraved mind, the separate virgin sacrifices of innocent lives were to have me appointed Solicitor-General, and ultimately, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. All of these allegations are absolutely false, dangerously malicious and factually baseless.”

He added: “Further, she also alleged that Ofori Diah told her that the same Hadallah or Ciafa Watara has allegedly also made three separate virgin girls sacrifices for Cllr. Bobby Livingstone, Honorable Nathaniel F. McGill and President George Manneh Weah in Guinea, and although Mr. Ofori Diah has appeared on public radio to refute these allegations, and has challenged convict Cockrum to bring forth the evidence which she has failed to produce, some members of our society, mainly headed by disgraced and impeached legislative felon, Associate Justice Kabineh Muhammad Ja’neh, Bishop Kortu Brown, Cllr. Dempster Brown, wrongly using the INCHR for publicity purposes to besmear the Government of Liberia, and a group of recently charged and convicted felons from the so-called Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF), have taken to the airwaves in manners, forms and shapes only suitable to their selfish interests to publicly call for my unconditional and unceremonious removal as Solicitor-General on such flimsy and unfounded allegations.”

According to the Solicitor-General, these persons (ex-Justice Ja’neh, Bishop Brown, Cllr. Brown, Farhat and Gonquoi)  have individually, jointly and severally threatened to effect on him, as reigning Solicitor-General, a public arrest order, to take him to court and for this reason, have extended their campaign of fear, terror and disinformation to his wife and family through radio pronouncements and newspaper publications as demonstrably shown by the attached newspaper’s article in The Inquirer attributed to Cllr. Brown.

He is therefore calling the Justice Minister’s attention to what he termed as open threats on his life and members of his family and close relatives and friends, because there seems a divide and rule game being employed and heavily played to apparently frighten him (Justice Minister)  into submission that the plot to remove him (Cllr. Cephus) as Solicitor-General is not directed at him (Justice Minister), or, in fact he (Justice Minister)  as the purported victim whose job as Minister of Justice and Attorney-General is being unduly sought and that this campaign is being fought on his (Justice Minister) behalf to ensure his (Justice Minister) personal safety and wellbeing.

However, Cllr. Cephus claimed that in truth and practice, it is a well calculated ploy by these “forces of evil” to destabilize the Prosecution Department of the Ministry of Justice and install therein, someone of their liking to the detriment of the Government of Liberia.

“I am not surprised that this campaign began to gather pace, and strange bedfellows started to sow seeds of discords and lies against me, other prominent public officials and the government, when without any evidence, we saw and read in the recent press statement delivered by the Chairman of the Independent Commission of Human Rights(INCHR), Cllr. T. Dempster Brown, because in his view, there are ‘many alleged mysterious disappearances and deaths of people in the months of July and September, 2021,’ and therefore concluded that an independent inquiry commission be set up to investigate all those who have been falsely named in convict Cockrum’s unfounded allegations.
