Monrovia, Liberia — December 17, 2025
The Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND) on Tuesday morning commenced its planned “Lead or Leave” protest in Monrovia, with organizers vowing to proceed peacefully to the Executive Mansion despite earlier warnings from the Liberia National Police (LNP).
Protesters began assembling early across central Monrovia, chanting slogans and holding placards demanding accountability, improved governance, and respect for constitutional rights.
STAND Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu Jr. told supporters that the protest would remain peaceful but firm, insisting that the Executive Mansion is a lawful destination for public assembly under Liberia’s Constitution.
The Liberia National Police had earlier cautioned against protests at the Mansion, citing public safety and the Christmas season. STAND has rejected those claims, arguing that constitutional freedoms cannot be suspended by administrative directives or holidays.
Security forces have been deployed at major intersections in the capital to monitor the movement of protesters. No clashes or major incidents had been reported as of the time of filing this report.
The demonstration is part of a broader campaign by STAND and allied groups pressing the government to address economic hardship, alleged corruption, and concerns over civil liberties.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
