Monrovia, Liberia — House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has publicly addressed the growing controversy surrounding allegations of U.S. immigration fraud and family-related claims, urging those making accusations against him to seek redress through the courts.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Speaker Koon called on his sister, Cecelia Koon Kpor, and “all others who think that they have any legitimate claims” against him to pursue legal action rather than airing the matter in the media.
“Using a media platform to denigrate me and bring my reputation to disrepute finds no solution and only exposes your malicious intent towards me,” the Speaker wrote.
The statement marks Speaker Koon’s first personal response since allegations surfaced publicly on the Spoon Talk Show and were subsequently amplified by media reports and public debate. The claims involve assertions of a fraudulent marriage arrangement allegedly aimed at obtaining U.S. permanent residency allegations which Speaker Koon has not addressed in detail in his post.
Instead, the Speaker framed the controversy as an attempt to damage his reputation, emphasizing his commitment to leadership “rooted in character, discipline, and integrity.” He added that as Speaker of the House of Representatives, he owes the Liberian people responsible and lawful conduct.
“I will spare no effort to achieve that,” he said.
Speaker Koon concluded by calling for peaceful coexistence, respect for the law, and extended Christmas greetings to the public.
While the statement rejects the use of media platforms to resolve the dispute, it does not directly deny or clarify the specific allegations that have fueled public concern. As of publication, no court action or official investigation either in Liberia or the United States has been publicly confirmed.
The matter continues to generate widespread attention, with civil society voices calling for transparency given the Speaker’s powerful position at the helm of Liberia’s Legislature.
