Monrovia, Liberia — Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr. has formally challenged the Government of Liberia to provide a detailed and verifiable breakdown of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.’s claim that 70,000 jobs were created in 2025.
In a letter dated January 27, 2026, and addressed to Senate President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, the Bomi County Senator called on the Liberian Senate to invite the Minister of Labour to account for the employment figures announced by the President during his State of the Nation Address delivered on January 26, 2026.
While commending President Boakai for prioritizing job creation, Senator Snowe stressed that such a significant national claim must be subjected to legislative scrutiny to ensure transparency, accuracy, and accountability.
According to the Senator, the Legislature must be provided with a comprehensive classification of the reported jobs, including their nature, duration, and sectoral distribution, in order to properly assess their impact on unemployment, livelihoods, and inclusive economic growth.
“This is a national undertaking of immense importance to the Liberian people and falls squarely within the constitutional oversight responsibilities of the Legislature,” Snowe noted.
He further emphasized that engaging the Ministry of Labour on the matter would strengthen the Senate’s understanding of the scope and structure of the employment initiative and help guide sustainable job creation policies moving forward.
Senator Snowe currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy, Hydrocarbon and Environment and heads Liberia’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament. His request is expected to be considered by the Senate in its upcoming sessions.
