Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – May 12, 2025
In a significant move aimed at restoring stability and promoting unity within the Grand Bassa University Student Union Veterans Association (GBUSUVA), the acting leadership, under the stewardship of Co-Chairperson Naomi Janjaymar Nagbe, has announced its first wave of appointments to both Standing and Ad Hoc Committees.
The appointments, made in consultation with a majority of the Executive Committee Members, were described as part of a broader effort to foster reconciliation, inclusivity, and responsible leadership under the vision of “One GBUSUVA.”
Reconstituted Standing Committees
Among the six standing committees named were key bodies such as the Ways, Means and Finance Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Dennis; the Education Committee, led by Tenizee Baryogar; and the Audit Committee, headed by George Garmonyou Farneh, Jr. Other committees announced include Program and Projects, Social and Culture, and Membership.
“These appointments reflect a careful and inclusive process intended to reposition our union for growth, cooperation, and responsible leadership,” Acting Chairperson Nagbe said in an official communication.
Creation of Strategic Ad Hoc Committees
Two high-level ad hoc committees were also established: the Dialogue and Reconciliation Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Whenyou, and the Leadership Planning Retreat Committee, chaired by Jonathan D. Reeves.
The Reconciliation Committee includes a cross-section of prominent members such as Janjay Baikpeh, Charlyne Brumskine, and Paula Montgomery. This team is expected to lead healing efforts following past internal disagreements within the association.
Meanwhile, the Leadership Retreat Committee has been tasked with organizing a strategic leadership retreat within the next month and coordinating the development of a comprehensive GBUSUVA Action Plan for 2025.
Additional Appointments Anticipated
The acting leadership also announced that further appointments will be made soon to complete remaining committee rosters, fill vacant elected posts—including Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and Assistant Secretary—and constitute the Board of Advisors.
The Acting Chairperson expressed hope that all appointees would accept the call to serve, pledging that the administration remains committed to unity and the legacy of the student veterans’ movement.
The announcement marks the first major step by the transitional leadership since assuming responsibilities and is seen by many observers as a critical opportunity to rebuild cohesion within GBUSUVA after recent turbulence.
