May 19, 2025 — In a bold move to reinforce constitutional governance and transparency, the Executive Committee of the Grand Bassa University Student Union Veterans Association (GBUSUVA) has officially dissolved the appointed Board of Advisors, citing violations of the organization’s constitution that brought the body into existence.
The decision, announced in a formal communication dated May 19, 2024, is based on a review of Chapter Three, Article 10, Section 2 of the GBUSUVA Constitution, which mandates that the Board of Advisors be elected by the Executive Committee rather than appointed. The leadership, headed by Acting Chairperson Naomi Janjaymar Nagbe, described the prior appointments by former Chair, Marlyn Mellish Tugbah as unconstitutional and inconsistent with GBUSUVA’s core values (constitution).
“Any deviation from this process constitutes a violation of the constitution and undermines the principles of transparency and good governance enshrined in the GBUSUVA framework,” the statement read.
The now-dissolved board was led by Mr. Jos Mehdeh. While the Executive Committee did not impugn the character or service of the appointees, it emphasized that procedural integrity must take precedence.
“We wish to sincerely thank all those who served on the appointed board for their efforts and contributions,” Nagbe wrote, extending gratitude to the outgoing members for their dedication.
As part of its effort to promote inclusivity and accountability, the Executive Committee announced plans to organize elections for a new Board of Advisors in accordance with constitutional procedures. Members and stakeholders are invited to submit names of “eminent and reputable personalities” for consideration, with recommendations to be channeled through the Office of the Co-Chair and Acting Chairperson.
This development signals a renewed commitment by GBUSUVA to align with democratic practices and ensure that all governing structures reflect the will of its members and the rule of law.
The Executive Committee concluded by calling on all veterans and stakeholders to remain actively engaged in the process of rebuilding and realigning the Association’s governance framework.
One Board member Togar Alexander Bealded resigned months ago knowing the unconstitutionality of the Board couple with several members direct interference with the election.
