Gbarnga, Bong County — Build FM/TV has reliably gathered that Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Fasu V. Sheriff, former County Police Commander of Bong County, has been relieved of his duties and reassigned to Grand Bassa County following disciplinary action taken by the leadership of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
His transfer comes in the wake of findings that he failed to adequately manage security and traffic during a high profile presidential movement, an incident that generated serious concern within the national security apparatus.
According to information obtained by this outlet, in early August 2025 the LNP suspended ACP Sheriff along with three other senior officers assigned to the Bong County detachment over a series of administrative failures and security lapses.
Sheriff’s suspension, which lasted for one month, stemmed from an incident in which he was found to have mishandled traffic control and convoy security during the return of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai from Grand Gedeh County.
Reports indicated that commercial and private vehicles were allowed to merge into the presidential convoy, resulting in heavy congestion along the Bong County corridor and creating avoidable security risks.
The Liberia National Police described the incident as a serious deviation from established security protocols, emphasizing that the safe and orderly movement of a presidential convoy is a matter of national importance requiring detailed planning and strict execution.
In response, the LNP’s Professional Standards Department recommended corrective disciplinary measures to enforce accountability and restore public confidence in the police.
As part of this process, ACP Sheriff was suspended from active duty in Bong County pending performance review and reassignment.
During the period of suspension, the LNP temporarily appointed Police Chief of Operations, Chris Gono, to oversee the Bong County detachment while investigations continued.
At the same time, three other senior officers were disciplined for separate infractions, including the mishandling of a burglary case and poor supervisory oversight within their respective units.
Following the conclusion of his suspension, ACP Fasu V. Sheriff was officially transferred to Grand Bassa County as County Police Commander, replacing Assistant Commissioner of Police William Wuo Johnson.
Police authorities say the leadership change forms part of broader strategic realignments intended to enhance operational effectiveness across key counties.
In his farewell remarks to residents of Bong County, ACP Sheriff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged continued dedication to duty in his new assignment. He acknowledged the challenges encountered during his tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to professional growth and national service.
However, Sheriff’s reassignment has sparked public debate, with some citizens expressing concern about whether he will effectively manage security in Grand Bassa County. Many residents have drawn comparisons with his predecessor, ACP William Wuo Johnson, who was widely credited for strengthening joint security operations in the county.
Under Johnson’s leadership, police successfully arrested a notorious criminal popularly known as “Tripper Two – 222,” a development that reportedly led to an estimated 85 percent reduction in nighttime criminal activity in several previously dangerous areas, including Welcome Gate, Monrovia Junction, Dirt Hole, Atlantic Street, Small and Big Fanti Town, Sugarcane Farm Community, Own Your Own, Moore Town, Bassa Community and surrounding neighborhoods.
As ACP Sheriff assumes command in Grand Bassa, public attention remains fixed on whether he will build on existing gains, restore confidence, and effectively manage the county’s security landscape in line with the expectations of residents and national police authorities.
