    Monrovia, Liberia – February 9, 2026

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced the immediate expulsion of three senior political figures from its ranks, citing prolonged acts of disloyalty and violations of the party’s constitution and bylaws.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the National Chairman, the CDC said the decision followed what it described as nearly 18 months of conduct deemed damaging to the party’s interests and principles.

Those expelled are Grand Gedeh Senator Zoe E. Pennue, Kanio Bai Gbala, and Samson Weah, Representative of Sinoe County District Two.

According to the release, the expulsions were carried out in line with several provisions of the CDC constitution, including Sections 38, 39, 41(A), 42, 44, 45, 46, and 47. Section 47 outlines circumstances under which party membership may cease, including voluntary withdrawal, transfer of loyalty to another political party, or expulsion endorsed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The party accused the expelled members of using public platforms to denigrate the CDC and of aligning themselves with the ruling Unity Party-led government—actions the CDC says are inconsistent with its values and opposition stance.

“The CDC does not condone such conduct and hereby affirms that these individuals are no longer affiliated with the party in any form,” the statement said.

In unusually strong language, the party leadership described the actions of the expelled members as “treacherous” and warned other members against engaging in what it termed “deviant and anti-CDC conduct.” The CDC further cautioned the public against doing business with the expelled individuals in the name of the party, stating that any such engagement would be done at one’s own risk.

The statement, signed by National Chairman Janga A. Kowo, reaffirmed the CDC’s commitment to its people-centered principles and said the party remains focused on rebuilding and preparing for the 2029 general elections.

As of publication, there has been no official public response from the expelled members.
