Liberia National County Sports Meets soccer defending champion Lofa County’s dream of shining under the fresh, raw, and radiant lights at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex has been painfully cut short, following a fraud controversy that has rocked the county’s football campaign.

In the aftermath of the disputed match between Lofa County and Grand Cape Mount, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has ruled in favor of the Italian trained gaffer, Samir Kamara popularly known as Pepper Juventus Pinturicchio Peru and his Grand Cape Mount side. After a comprehensive review, the Ministry upheld the protest, awarding Cape Mount three points and two goals, a decision that secured their place to compete at the SKD while officially eliminating Lofa County.

The ruling has sparked mixed reactions across the sporting community. In response, the Lofa County Sports Association (LOSA) has issued a formal warning to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other relevant stakeholders.

LOSA expressed strong opposition to the playing of Lofa County meet songs during the ongoing National County Sports Meet and warned that legal action may be pursued if the matter is not adequately addressed.

This painful setback comes at a time when Lofa County sports is already battling deep internal wounds. Weeks before the official opening of the National County Sports Meet 2025, Lofa’s all-time county meet legend, James Messi Tarpeh whose legacy earned him the honor of a town named Tarpeh Town officially parted ways with the county football team.

His departure marked a heartbreaking moment for fans and signaled the beginning of a turbulent period.
Since then, Lofa County sports has been engulfed in controversy.

The football team’s head coach was reportedly arrested in connection with illegal drugs, casting a heavy shadow over the team’s leadership. In another blow, the county’s Kickball team was fined US$5,000, with 17 players banned for assaulting a match official.

Adding to the growing list of setbacks, the football team has now been disqualified over allegations of cheating. Together, these events paint a sorrowful picture of a once proud sporting county now struggling to reclaim discipline, integrity, and the trust of its supporters.
