The impasse at the Press Union of Liberia came to a close Saturday in Paynesville when hundreds of journalists queued to vote Journalist Julius Kanubah as President of the Union.
This followed series of disagreements including a heated court battle that lasted for months.
Julius defeated his rival Daniel Nyankonah in a rerun election clinching atleast a hundred and eight five votes to twenty nine.
Hundreds of journalists from across the country trooped to Monrovia to vote the astute media personality hoping to end months of battle for supremacy.
Julius now has a huge task to reconcile the Press Union and ensure media development and harmonious relationships are achieved.
“As it stands, the Union remains hugely divided but the charisma and leadership implored can definitely settle the dust,” one media practitioner said.
Julius Kanubah is a researcher with interests in development and governance, journalism and media, rurality and natural resource management.
He has postgraduate degrees from Germany and South Africa and worked extensively in the both the Liberian and German media.
Many journalists remain hopeful he will rebrand the PUL and make it second to none in the region and globally.
