Raipur, India — The Association of Liberian Students in India (ALSI), through its National Executive Committee (NEC), has announced the tragic death of Mr. Sam Poar Juday, a Liberian student at Kalinga University, describing the incident as deeply distressing and heartbreaking for the Liberian student community in India and abroad.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the ALSI NEC expressed profound condolences to the family, friends, classmates, and loved ones of the late student, noting that the loss of a young Liberian scholar in a foreign country has sent shockwaves across the diaspora.
“This tragedy has shaken the Liberian student community in India and beyond,” the statement read, as the NEC mourned what it called the painful loss of “our late brother.”
Report is that the Liberian was pushed from a tall storey building during a scuffle on campus.
Call for Calm and Respect for the Law
Amid rising emotions surrounding the incident, ALSI urged Liberian students and members of the public to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. The student body cautioned against speculation, misconduct, or actions that could undermine ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding Juday’s death.
According to the NEC, ALSI is actively working with student leaders in the affected institution and state, while maintaining continuous engagement with the administration of Kalinga University to ensure what it described as a “thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.”
The association emphasized that justice must be pursued strictly through lawful means and in line with due process, adding that all persons of interest should be investigated by competent Indian authorities under the rule of law.
Renewed Call to the Liberian Government
In a strongly worded appeal, ALSI highlighted the absence of a Liberian embassy or consulate in India, a gap it said continues to leave Liberian students without immediate diplomatic protection.
Using the death of Mr. Juday as a somber reminder, the NEC renewed its call on the Liberia government through the Executive Mansion and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to urgently intervene.
Among the key demands outlined by ALSI are:
- Immediate diplomatic engagement with the Government of India;
- Provision of emergency diplomatic and legal support to affected Liberian students;
- Accelerated steps toward establishing a Liberian embassy or consulate in India to protect the growing student and migrant community.
“The need for an embassy or consulate cannot be overemphasized,” the NEC stressed.
Commitment to Justice and Support
ALSI reaffirmed its commitment to seeking justice for Mr. Sam Poar Juday, supporting Liberian students during this difficult period, and providing only verified updates through its official communication channels.
The association concluded its statement with a solemn tribute:
“May the soul of our brother Sam Poar Juday rest in perfect peace.”
Further updates, ALSI noted, will be shared as more information becomes available.
